The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN)’s Oshikoto regional electoral officer, Ester Hipangelwa, has confirmed that they are providing electricity to 20 schools in the region from which their teams will operate on election day.
Hipangelwa in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday said they are purchasing prepaid electricity to top up at various schools in the region.
She said schools, especially in remote rural areas, are accommodating them.
“We also need generators to take to our stations where there is no electricity,” she said.
Hipangelwa also acknowledged some schools have not allowed the ECN to purchase electricity because of their view that election day is a national exercise.
Oshikoto Region has a total of 63 000 registered voters and 1 500 polling officials.
