Africa Netball president Cecilia Molokwane has urged Namibians to make the 2024 Africa Netball Cup a memorable experience, as the countdown to the battle for continental supremacy begins in earnest.

Namibia will host 10 African countries at Swakopmund from 9 to 14 December in what is expected to be a thrilling tournament, featuring both men’s and women’s teams.

Molokwane, who doubles as Netball South Africa’s head, has endorsed Namibia’s readiness to successfully host Africa’s premier netball competition.

“Come one, come all,” she said on Wednesday in a promotional video for the tournament which will be hosted inside the MTC Dome.

“Namibia is ready to host and deliver a great event for the national teams. I have visited Namibia three times to monitor preparations, and I can confidently say they are ready.

“I’ve also collaborated with Namibia’s minister of sport, who is very eager to make this a success for their country,” Molokwane said.

Most notably, Netball Namibia recently installed two sprung wooden floors at a cost of N$3 million, thanks to a mystery stakeholder whose identity will be made public closer to the event.

“To everybody who contributed to this tournament, sponsors, the government, Africa Network executive, and all the players and management, coaches, technical team, and whoever will be involved in this tournament, good luck and thank you for making this tournament a reality,” Molokwane said.

“To everybody else in Namibia, especially at Swakopmund, come watch the best of the best on the continent of Africa, a beautiful continent where we pride ourselves as people with culture, with heritage, people who understand their worth, who understand their value, people with minerals.”

Along with holders Zambia, continental powerhouses South Africa, Uganda and Malawi have all confirmed their participation in the Africa Netball Cup, adding prestige and intrigue to the line-up.

“We understand who we are, Africans, proudly Africans. And no one can say they are not proud to be Africans,” Molokwane said.

“Get ready for electric matches, unforgettable moments, and a celebration of African unity and talent. To World Network, thank you for giving us this opportunity. To all the countries that are coming, welcome to Namibia.”
