Three murders occurred over the weekend, police say.
On Friday, at approximately 20h52, a fatal shooting occurred at the Kasi Kasie Market in Otjomuise.
According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, it is alleged that a heated argument broke out between a suspect and another man after the suspect accused the latter of having an affair with his girlfriend.
Shikwambi says during the altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a firearm and shot both the victim and the victim’s girlfriend identified as Mechtilde Lamek (31).
She says Lamek was found dead at the scene, seated in a chair with a gunshot wound to her chest.
Despite being shot, the police reported that the victim, whose name has not been released, survived and was transported to Katutura State Hospital for treatment.
“Three spent cartridges were discovered at the scene, as well as a spring magazine, a magazine cover and pieces of an iPhone cellphone.
“The suspect is well known but not yet arrested as he fled the scene. Next of kin were informed. Police investigations continue,” Shikwambi days.
In a separate incident on Saturday, between 01h00 and 02h00, the body of Elia Joseph (20) was discovered along Green Mountain road at Wanaheda.
According to the police, the body was found by a passing taxi driver who alerted authorities.
It is alleged that Joseph suffered a stab wound to the left side of his chest.
Shikwambi says police investigations are continuing, and his next of kin have been informed of his death.
On the same day, at approximately 14h54, a domestic dispute at Outjo turned deadly.
It is alleged that at Damara location, a 43-year-old woman was stabbed and killed by a 50-year-old man.
Shikwambi says the victim died at the scene from multiple stab wounds. The cause of the argument that led to the attack is yet to be determined.
The suspect, who had a domestic relationship with the victim, has been arrested.
“Next of kin have not yet been informed, and investigations are ongoing.
“The police are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist with the ongoing investigations,” she says.
