Elderly man dies after falling from tree

A man (73) died on Tuesday following an alleged falling incident at Oikango village in the Ongwediva area.

Oshana police crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Fredrick Ndjadila says the deceased has been identified as Fillimon Hikongwanongo Shilongo.

“He allegedly woke up early on Monday to feed the cattle. Upon returning home, he informed his wife that he had fallen from a tree nearby the homestead, which he tried to trim for animal feed, and was not feeling well,” Ndjadila says.

They went to the Onamutai Clinic, where he was treated and returned home. “On the same day, his wife saw him lying near a hut. When she asked him if he was fine, he said he was okay and only complained of the heat,” Ndjadila says.

The wife reportedly told her husband to go back to the hospital, but he declined.

“On Tuesday morning, the man was heard moving around the house. His wife woke up and went to see if he was fine, and he said there’s no problem, then he went back to sleep.” At around 06h00, the wife went to check on him and found he had died in his bed, says Ndjadila. No inquest docket has been opened yet, pending the post-mortem report, adds Ndjadila.
