Minor dies from snake bite at Ohamandjanga village

A girl (7) died on Sunday after she was allegedly bitten by a snake at Ohamandjanga village in the Oshikoto region.

Regional crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Titus Ekandjo says the incident occurred at around 11h00, when Ndapewaehafo Phillipus, along with her two younger siblings, was playing near an ant hill while tending to mahangu crops.

While playing, Phillipus allegedly inserted a stick into holes in the ant hill and was bitten on the arm by a black mamba.

“Shortly after, the deceased returned to the house and was found unconscious in the sleeping room by her stepfather,” Ekandjo says.

The stepfather was informed by one of the younger siblings, who explained what had happened, before he rushed to the neighbours for help.

Upon his return, he found Phillipus dead.

Her body was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

Phillipus’ next of kin have been informed of her death.
