The legendary Mitsubishi Triton

The new Japanese brand Mitsubishi Triton needs no introduction, having enjoyed a presence on the local market for many years now.

However, with smooth, curvy lines being replaced with more solid lines, at first glance, one would almost think the legendary Mitsubishi Colt is making a return.

It seems more manufacturers are slowly returning to the drawing board to bring back the real bakkie lines, as opposed the more recent stylish and modern appearance.

But at the end of the day, the real purpose of the bakkie remains being a robust workhorse.

This is what the new Triton resembles and it’s designed with the DNA to deliver.

Mitsubishi Motors’ Andre van der Merwe says clients are assured value for money when purchasing the brand.

With its advanced 4×4 capabilities, the car comes standard with Super Select 4WD-II technology.

The 2.4L turbo diesel 4-cylinder engine needs no introduction to owners of the vehicle and it has been tested and proven in many Dakar Rallies.

Van der Merwe says the statistics are impressive. The car delivers a comfortable 135kW through its 2.4 engine.

In addition, Triton GL models offer a 2.4L turbo diesel with a 81kW and 200 Nm paired with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The vehicle is available in 2×4 and 4×4 copies, with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

The vehicle is available either in a single or double cab.

“A study done at around 60 dealers in southern Africa shows that our guarantee claims statistics on all our new vehicles (under guarantee) reflects at 0.038%, meaning if you come to the dealer, you only come in for a service,” Van der Merwe says.

The generation vehicle six comes with an all-new frame to enhance both driving and stability on the road.

During the test drive, one can vouch for the improvement in the vehicle’s stability and comfort as one travels through uneven roads.

The engineers redesigned it with a double wishbone front suspension and a 20mm longer suspension, while the rear leaf spring suspension is not only lighter and fitted with new rubbers, it enhances riding comfort.

This helps to increase the load box’s capacity and can handle a load of just over a tonne with ease. To be exact 1 050 kg.

To add value to the vehicle, it has a tow capacity of 3.5 tonnes.

The load box was lowered by 45mm for easier loading and access.

With the new technology, the Triton is more capable.

The driver now has four driving modes to select from via a dial-based terrain control.

To complement the vehicle, the driver can select modes such as normal, eco or gravel and snow to adapt to various terrains.

Some models come standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, front and rear fog lights and folding mirrors.

Although the Mitsubishi is known for being practical, it has luxury features like cruise control, keyless operating system and bluetooth with hands-free voice control, a smartphone wireless charger and multiple USB charging outlets.

The vehicle comes with a six speaker sound system, electric windows, electric adjusted driver seat and automatic air conditioning.

The design and the vehicle comes standard with an emergency stop signal system, hill assist system, rear-view camera, parking sensors, seven airbags and front rain sensing wipers, to mention a few.
