Two men died in a car accident at Ontana village in the Oshikoto region on Saturday afternoon.
Crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Titus Ekandjo says the men – one aged 35 and the other of unknown age – were thrown from the pickup they were travelling in when it overturned.
The deceased have been identified as Uugwanga Simaneka and Alugodhi Johannes.
Ekandjo says cases of reckless and negligent driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driving licence have been opened against the man (63) who drove the vehicle.
The accident occurred around 16h15 on the D3630 gravel road between Onyati and Onkumbula.
“It is alleged that the single-cab pickup with Omuthiya registration was driving in the direction of Onkumbula when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it left the road and overturned,” Ekandjo says.
The pickup carried three passengers, and the two men who died were seated in the back of the vehicle.
“They died on the spot,” he says.
The driver and the other passenger have been injured.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Onandjokwe State Hospital mortuary, and their next of kin have been informed of the incident.
