National Democratic Party (NDP) president Martin Lukato says he will be a happy man if his secretary general Alex Linyando’s proposal to have a street named after him at Katima Mulilo is realised.
Lukato on Tuesday said the party led a roadshow on Sunday and gathered at Kamunu Hall to celebrate its successful election campaign and to say “thank you” to party supporters and sympathisers who voted him into the National Assembly.
He said it was during this event that Linyando made the proposal, stating they would approach the Katima Mulilo Town Council this week regarding the idea.
Lukato said the Namibian people have spoken, and he will be going to parliament, despite ongoing court battles initiated by other political parties challenging the election outcome, alleging it was neither free nor fair and was mired by irregularities.
“As NDP, we are satisfied with the outcome of the elections. For the past 20 years, I was fighting from outside , and now I will be inside. It is expected of me to make a difference because the power has been given to me to deliver services and contributions to the Namibian people,” he noted.
“There are many resolutions that we will be undertaking. Of course, the secretary general Linyando, made a proposal, along with other senior party members, that I am a freedom fighter and should be honoured with a street named after me. The senior vice president, David Mwikima, will be engaging the youth in different corners of this country about my difficult political journey in the coming weeks,” he said.
The NDP is currently headquartered at Queensland Village in the Makanga area of the Kongola constituency in the Zambezi region.
