Education, arts, and culture minister Anna Nghipondoka, along with executive director Sanet Steenkamp, met with Namibia College of Open Learning (Namcol) management on Wednesday morning.
This is to review the 2024 national examination results for part-time ordinary level and advanced subsidiary level pupils.
Namcol offers pupils the chance to retake their examinations, providing a pathway to tertiary education.
Nghipondoka recently announced that out of the 40 000 candidates who sat for the ordinary level exams, 12 031, or 29.5%, qualified for tertiaryinstitutions. This marks a four percentage point increase from the 25.2% qualification rate in 2023.
Since 2020, when only 18.5% of candidates qualified, there has been a consistent rise of 11 percentage points in the number of pupils qualifying for Grade 12 or university.
“There has been a steady increase in candidates qualifying for advanced subsidiary level in our schools, indicating positive progress in our education system and fostering optimism for the future,” Nghipondoka stated.
The ministry also aimed to gain insights into Namcol’s teaching methods, performance management systems, and quality assurance, while brainstorming ways to identify opportunities to enhance academic performance for part-time students in the future.
