Keep the founding father in your prayers – Utoni Nujoma

Labour minister Utoni Nujoma has called on the nation to keep his father, founding president Sam Nujoma, in their prayers.  

This follows reports that the 95-year-old former head of state is unwell and admitted to a Windhoek hospital.

Speaking to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday, Utoni said his father remains in a critical but stable condition while receiving treatment at a local private hospital.  

He also urged the public to continue praying for the founding father.  

Last week, Utoni told The Namibian his father had been hospitalised but was showing signs of improvement.  

“Yes, it is true, my father has been admitted, but his personal doctor said he is improving, and that’s all I can say at this moment,” he said.

President Nangolo Mbumba’s spokesperson, Alfredo Hengari, on Sunday said the presidency will update the nation on the health of Nujoma when necessary.

Following his hospitalisation last week, various organistions have extended their well wishes.

South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) has extended its well wishes to Nujoma, wishing him a speedy recovery.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri extended the party’s well wishes on social media over the weekend, commending Nujoma’s leadership during the struggle for Namibia’s independence.

On Monday, the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) extended its wishes to Nujoma for a speedy recovery.

A statement issued on Saturday by SPYL secretary Ephraim Nekongo expressed their solidarity with the Nujoma family, Swapo and nation during this period, offering their collective prayers and wishes for strength and resilience.
