MVA Fund urges public to be cautious on roads during funeral proceedings

Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund chief executive Rosalia Martins-Hausiku Jane Ikela released a media statement on 27 February 2025, calling for caution on roads during founding president Sam Nujoma’s funeral proceedings.

The MVA Fund urges motorists and road users to exercise caution and vigilance while using the roads during the regional memorial services and street processions in honour of Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, the founding president of the Namibian nation.

The fund calls on pedestrians as vulnerable road users to avoid running across the road or standing too close to the road during the street procession and to adhere to the rules and regulations communicated by the authorities during this time.

With the year-to-date increase in road crashes, injuries and fatalities by 21%, 17.4% and 51.2% respectively, the fund appeals to motorists to adhere to speed limits, avoid reckless driving and exercise patience on the roads during this time amid heightened traffic throughout the country.

It is imperative that each citizen plays their part to avoid road crashes, injuries and fatalities during this gloomy time. The fund reminds the public to honour and respect the memory of our late founding president by demonstrating responsible driving and respect for one another on the roads.

The fund further calls on all to report crashes to the MVA Fund’s toll-free accident response number 9682, as doing so can save a life.
