Tigers poised to garner maximum points

Tigers aim to collect maximum points against the two sides in the Debmarine Namibia Premiership this weekend.

Tigers want to build on their 1-0 victory against Rundu-based Cuca Tops last time out with victory over unbeaten Young African at the Windhoek Sport Klub (SKW) stadium tonight, before taking on top-of the table Stars at the same venue on Sunday.

The blue-and-white outfit from Shandumbala has an equally daunting task to overcome when they take on log leaders and defending champions African Stars FC who are three points clear of ‘Ingweinyama’ on the log.

Speaking to Desert FM this week, Tigers spokesperson Dalla Nghivelwa admitted it will not be an easy challenge to overcome, because both teams are on a high after booking their places in the inaugural MTC Maris Cup final.

“Though it will not be easy, our victory against Cuca Tops came as the needed booster for our players to give both Young African and Stars a run for their money,” Nghivelwa said.

“We want nothing more than maximum points this weekend because our charges are mentally and physically ready for both encounters.”

Stars and Tigers enjoy a long-standing rivalry, which will make for another entertaining clash, Nghivelwa said.

“When we play against Stars it is always a fierce battle on the field of play and, by the way, with the demotion of both Black Africa and Orlando Pirates, the match between Stars and Tigers is the only Katutura derby,” he said.

“Unlike others, we are not going to reveal our new signings as it will be a surprise package for both our fans and opponents.”

He urged Tigers’ fans to flock to the stadium tonight and fill it to the rafters, because Ingweinyama is not bowing out on the challenge to topple both Young African and Stars this weekend.

Otjiwarongo-based Mighty Gunners, who have had a splendid run of late, are third on 19 points, and, with home advantage, could easily garner the needed points against 15th-placed Bucks Buccaneers and eighth placed Unam at the Mokati Stadium this weekend.

At the Oshakati Independence Stadium, popular Eeshoke Chula Chula, who have had a mixed season so far, will host bottom-rocked Cuca Tops tomorrow and ninth-placed Julinho Athletic on Sunday.

Cuca Top have lost seven of ten matches played so far.

Meanwhile, coastal-giant Blue Waters, now under the tutelage of Paolo Shipanga, have to pull up their socks if they want to remain in the elite league.

Shipanga has a daunting task to pull the blue-and-white out of the dismal performances they have become accustomed to by recording victories against Young Brazilians and Khomas Nampol at the Kuisebmund Stadium.

And finally, Okahandja United, comfortably in seventh place, will play host to Unam and Bucks Buccaneers FC at the Nau-Aib stadium.
