President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has proven her critics wrong and demonstrated that true leadership is not defined by age or gender, but by vision and action.
Before she assumed office, some Namibians doubted whether she was capable of leading the nation, citing her age and the fact that she is a woman.
However, her predecessors, who were of the same age or even older, were not met with the same scepticism, possibly because they were men.
Nandi-Ndaitwah proves the truth of the saying ‘never judge a book by its cover’.
She has already shown her dedication to transforming Namibia, starting with her well-crafted manifesto, which prioritises tackling youth unemployment and eradicating poverty and hunger.
One of her most commendable decisions was reducing the Cabinet to just 14 ministries. This strategic move will significantly cut government expenditure, particularly in terms of the high salaries and benefits ministers receive.
Additionally, she merged ministries with overlapping functions, ensuring efficiency and preventing unnecessary government spending.
Another historic achievement is the inclusivity of her cabinet – the most diverse in Namibia’s history. Nearly all Namibian tribes are well represented, gender balance has been prioritised, and selections were based on merit and qualifications rather than political loyalty or personal connections.
With such bold and progressive leadership, Namibia is entering a promising new era. The next five years will be defined by progress, efficiency, and inclusivity.
Indeed, this is a proud moment to be Namibian!
