Affirmative Repositioning land application underway

The nationwide mass action spearheaded by Affirmative Repositioning is underway in different towns in Namibia.

This morning, youth in numbers marched to to their respective municipalities to hand in land application letters. While some walked long distances, other landless youth claim to have slept in front of their municipalities in anticipation of today.

By 10h00, young and old assembled in front of the Okahandja municipality to hand in the letters. Job Amupanda, who is the brain behind the mass action, spoke to the land-less applicants in front of the Okahandja municipality.

In Walvis Bay, about 600 applicants handed in their applications this morning. At the event, Kempen Claasen, who is married with two children, also submitted his application. Claasen is on medical pension and suffers from leukaemia. “We cannot afford a house with my small pension so I am hoping for something out of this opportunity,” he said.

No form of violence has been recorded yet.

The mass action has been seen replicated in Ondangwa as residents peacefully went to submit their applications. There is however slow movement.

“I am happy that there are more old people submitting their application forms,” said Amupanda in Okahandja.

At the coast, Swakopmund has neared 6 000 applications.
