Airplane crash ‘has affected us all’ – Westair Aviation

Westair Aviation has confirmed that the aeroplane which crashed in the Pionierspark area of Windhoek on Friday afternoon was a Cessna 406 owned by the company.

In a statement issued by Westair, it said the accident happened at 17h00 and resulted in the death of three Westair employees.

“This catastrophic event has deeply affected us all. We can confirm that sadly the three persons on board this non-commercial flight, all employees of Westair Aviation, did not survive the incident,” the company stated.

“First and foremost, our hearts go out to the families, friends and colleagues affected by this tragedy. We extend our deepest sympathies in this difficult time.”

The company also stated: “We are currently coordinating with local emergency services and authorities and are doing everything in our power to provide immediate assistance and support. The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew are our highest priority, and we are committed to understanding the exact cause of this incident.”

Westair said it would begin a comprehensive investigation in collaboration with aviation safety experts and relevant authorities.

“We are determined to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to prevent such an incident from occurring again. Further updates will be provided as soon as consolidated information is available and we are authorised to release them.”
