Allow ‘Piano Medicine’ to Heal You

‘Piano Medicine’ is just what DJ Asserdeep prescribes.

So says the music producer of his amapiano album dropping today.

“Having been in the studio for most of 2020, this album has already been ‘vibe certified’. So, expect nothing less than groovy moments,” he says.

The illusive artist will also be dropping an extended music video for the songs ‘VW Badge In Trouble’ and ‘Faka Faka’ today off the 17-track album.

The album features local produ-cers DJ Shoza and DJ What What, as well as some names from across the southern border such as Echo Deep, Pex Africah and Shandis.

DJ Asserdeep has been teasing the tape heavily on social media and so far it sounds like it’s gonna be one hell of a party album.

Described as a mix of new age and amapiano sounds the average person could relate to, Asserdeep says it adds a Namibian twist to the already popular genre.

He chose to release the new material today as it is his birthday, and instead of receiving gifts, he wants to be the one doing the giving.

DJ Asserdeep says he creates “speaker-rattling basslines and melodic piano rhythms blended with syncopated breakbeats”, all while letting his passion for the craft guide him.

The artist has been in the industry for 10 years, starting out as a back-up dancer for artists like Qonja and Oom Puff before finding house music and pursuing his own career.

Today he’s a regular at King Tee Dee’s annual concerts; has played at Pop Up Festival’s AKA edition as well as Gazza’s Milli Concert; had his own 017 music tour; and is a regular mixer at popular clubs around the city.

His goal is to take Namibian music abroad by growing its influence and popularity locally – something he and his record label, Expensive Musique, are passionate about.

“We’re all about being unique, but still familiar. So when we play music you’ll only hear stuff no other DJ has played before. We only ever put out mature music for mature audiences.”
