Alonso predicts Brawn rule

TWO-times world champion Fernando Alonso predicted yesterday that Formula One’s ‘diffuser trio’ will stay on top in the Chinese Grand Prix, while lashing out at tyre supplier Bridgestone.

The Spaniard, whose Renault team are not running with a version of the controversial diffuser, said this week’s ruling by the FIA’s International Court of Appeal was a clear boost to Brawn, Williams and Toyota.
The International Motoring Federation (FIA) announced Wednesday that the ‘double-decker’ diffusers, protested against by other teams, were entirely legal and within the heavily revised rules for this year.
In effect, it means all the other teams now face a catch-up situation and must try and copy the clever designs of the trio.
Alonso said that it was not merely a case of making a new diffuser and sticking it on the car. Many other parts had to be modified to make it work.
‘I don’t really care too much about this because unfortunately it is not our decision, it’s FIA decision or the Appeal Court’s decision,’ he said.
