Social activist Michael Amushelelo appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura on Tuesday where he was granted bail of N$1000.
Amushelelo was arrested earlier that day on charges of malicious damage to property, contravention of the Road Traffic and Transport Act, and breaching fire safety regulations.
Amushelelo handed himself over to police on the same day he set fire to tires on the road at the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation, where he held a one-man protest accusing the ministry of not caring for the well-being of Namibians employed by foreign companies.
His protest was prompted by the deaths of three Namibian workers, who died on duty while working at a Chinese-owned construction site.
