Amushelelo not planning to return to NEFF

Social activist Michael Amushelelo says he is not interested in rejoining his former comrades at the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF).

The party yesterday won its case in the High Court against the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), which earlier deregistered it for failing to submit financial reports timeously.

Judge Thomas Masuku set aside the decision by the ECN to cancel NEFF’s registration as a political party.

Amushelelo yesterday said regardless of the court’s ruling, the party remains unaccountable.

“For those insisting I return to the NEFF, believing I’m guaranteed a parliamentary seat there – whether I make it to parliament or not, it will never deter me from fighting for our people,” he said.

“Some people seem to forget quickly. The NEFF called me childish and claimed I was wrong for rewarding Moses Ndjene money for taking a stand against corruption.”

Amushelelo parted ways with the NEFF in July, following the party’s deregistration.

NEFF leader Kalimbo Iipumbu said the organisation is ready to accommodate every Namibian who is ready to fight for the working class and the poor.

“We know individuals may have joined with their individual thinking, or because they have followed certain individuals because they are part of that organisation,” he said.

Iipumbu said the party does not distance itself from people who run left or right.

“Perhaps these individuals need capacitation,” he said.
