A 55-year-old Angolan man accused of murdering his wife is being held in custody after making a first appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

It is alleged that Moris Kazimo beat his wife, Agnes Kachana Masule (67), with a piece of wood during a fight.

The fight allegedly took place after Masule had talked to another man at the Zambezi region village Zilitene on Sunday.

It is also alleged that the couple were on their way home from a bar where they had been drinking traditional brew when they met the man who aroused Kazimo’s jealousy.

After allegedly beating Masule to a point at which she lost consciousness, Kazimo is claimed to have made a report to her family members, who were also told where he had left her.

Masule’s family members alerted the police after finding her lifeless body.

Kazimo’s case was postponed to 28 June for further investigations and to allow Kazimo to apply for legal aid.

He appeared before magistrate Clara Mwilima, while the state was represented by public prosecutor Donovan Schuster.
