All People’s Party (APP) president Ambrosius Kumbwa says he will establish an independent anti-corruption commission appointed by parliament, not the president.
The commission will operate on a fixed tenure of 10 years to ensure independence and accountability, he says.
According to Kumbwa, a nation with high corruption undermines economic and social development, distorting markets and eroding public trust.
He says a comprehensive strategy centred on prevention, public-private collaboration and robust legal frameworks should be implemented to combat corruption.
Kumbwa was speaking during the party’s manifesto launch at Rundu on Saturday.
“Our vision is to develop and implement robust preventative strategies, including anti-corruption training, transparency initiatives and public awareness campaigns in a system that will operate without political interference,” Kumbwa said.
He noted that the APP aims to reduce corruption-related costs by up to 30% and establish a multi-stakeholder anti-corruption task force with representatives from civil society, business and the government.
This will ensure the task force is independent and effective, he said.
Moreover, Kumbwa said his governance will mandate that all state-owned enterprises (SOE) and multinational corporations (MNCs) sponsor a national sport code and cultural activities.
“SOEs and MNCs currently contribute less than 30% of the total sport sponsorship funding,” he said, proposing that an additional N$500 million be invested in national sport.
Kumbwa further said the APP will implement funding, training programmes and industry standards to elevate these sectors to global competitiveness.
