APP secretary general suspended

Vinsent Kanyetu

The secretary general of the All People’s Party, Vinsent Kanyetu, has been suspended, a senior party source told The Namibian on Wednesday.

Kanyetu is linked to a Rundu-based pressure group called United Namibian’s Party (UNP).

Paulus Shipapo is the leader of the group. Leaders of the group are suspected to be in the process of transforming it into a political party.

Shipapo confirmed he is the leader of the group but claims Kanyetu is not a member, nor does he subscribe to its membership.

Contacted for comment, Kanyetu said he was not aware of his suspension.

However, a source said Kanyetu was part of the UNP’s WhatsApp group.

“He was questioned about his role in the UNP group at a politburo meeting in April. He denied being part of the group on his phone to the leadership, but they refused to believe his side of the story,” the source said.

The source said Kanyetu told the politburo meeting he joined the WhatsApp group to see what is being discussed in the group.

APP chairperson Linus Muchila said the party’s politburo will meet this coming weekend to make a final decision on the matter.
