On the eve of Namibia celebrating 25 years of independence, there are a lot of things to reflect on. Development of the country, opportunities and general standard of living in the country.
The Weekender took to the streets of Windhoek to find out from Namibians what their dreams are and whether they are living their dreams in this independent state.
My dream is to boost the economy of the country and to contribute to the next phase of the Namibia Development Plan (NDP 4, a project of the National Planning Commission). I also want to contribute to the eradication of poverty. I am living my dream because I am studying to equip myself to make a difference. I think the government must make a plan and try their level best to stop corruption so that all can benefit.
I want to be a successful businesswoman and an entrepreneur. I have been provided with opportunities to live my dream so yes, I am living my dream.
My dream is to live in a country of peace and stability as well as to have free education. I believe I am living my dream. The government is really doing their part and taking care of us because we have government loans, bursaries and scholarships to study after school.
My dream is to be independent and pay my parents back for everything they have done for me. I see myself as a professional chartered accountant. I am living my dream because I am studying towards being a chartered accountant. The government might not be up to standard, but they are trying and can do better.
I always had a dream to be a nurse but because I did not qualify, I had to study my second option which was Human Resource Management. I think the government is doing enough to make sure the opportunities are there. If the opportunity presents itself, I will pursue my dream of being a nurse.
With a dream of being a businessman, I am currently running my own tuck-shop and I believe that I am living my dream because I am able to work towards being a big businessman. The only thing standing in my way is of course the finances. It is a bit difficult without finances.
My dream is to be a nurse. I am not living my dream because instead of studying towards a career in nursing, I am studying Human Resource Management. I needed one more point to be accepted into nursing school, I still wish I could be studying nursing now although I am loving what I am studying now.
My dream is to improve the economy of my country and I am living that dream because we are given loans to study so that we can improve the economy and also we live in a very independent country.
My dream was to become successful in life and I am living my dream. I come from a very poor background and now I support my family, provide for them and take care of them. Because I can take care of my family, I am living my dream.
My dream is to have free tertiary education in our country. I do believe that I am living one of my dreams because back then we did not have internet at schools, but now we have internet at university and government schools.
We do not have free education because there is too much corruption and people are not using the money for the projects they are meant for.
I would say I am living my dream partially. As a dancer, I have been places and am still going places. Career wise, I am working towards being a logistics manager who is always in demand. All opportunities are there, it is just up to us to make good use of them, we are sometimes our own boundaries.
