Willy ‘Awilo’ Stephanus announced his arrival in Thailand’s first division with aplomb as he helped Krabi FC to a come-from-behind victory on Sunday.
The creative midfielder is on a six-month “lucrative” loan deal from Namibia Premier League side Black Africa and can choose to extend his stay with the Thai side, should they gain promotion to the premier division, where two other Namibians strikers, Sadney Urikhob and Tangeni Shipahu, ply their trade.
“The deal is quite lucrative. It’s only six months because the league ends in November and he wants to move up a division,” said a close associate of the 24 year-old Namibian international. “It’s a good move for him. There is exposure and he wants to use that to his advantage.”
Formed in 2009, Krabi are an ambitious outfit seeking to join the elite ranks in the near future although their 3-2 win over Songkhla United still leaves them 14 places and 23 points off top spot.
“They were trailing 2-0 for a while. He had a hand in two of the goals for his team. He’s settling in well,” said the source.
Meanwhile, compatriot Urikhob also made a storming start to life in the Thai Premier League, scoring on debut for Saraburi FC in a 2-all draw against Thai Port.
