BA, Arrows out of MTC Cup

BA, Arrows out of MTC Cup

PREMIERSHIP outfits Black Africa and Eleven Arrows found their way out of the NFA MTC Cup after defeats in quarter-final matches played at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Saturday.

Black Africa were reduced to an ordinary side when an efficient and rather imposing Mighty Gunners sent them to the canvas with a 2-1 win, while Arrows hopelessly failed to counter Ramblers when they fell 4-0 in the final match of the day. Orlando Pirates survived a scare from Eleven Brothers in scorching heat to end on top with a 4-2 win, while African Stars came back from behind to beat Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) 2-1.Mighty Gunners, from Otjiwarongo and in the Otjozondjupa First Division, scored both goals in the second half within two minutes apart, and despite the free-kick by BA’s Masepo Dausab to make it 2-1, there was no holding back for the Otjiwarongo side, which fought for their survival and it paid off in the end.For Gunners, under the tutelage of former BA great Dawid ‘Fella’ Snewe, it is the first time that they have gone through to the semi-finals of the country’s biggest football competition. If they make it to the final, they would be the first lower-division team to have done that.Orlando Pirates were made to work extra hard against Eleven Brothers, also a lower-division team from Otjiwarongo.Eleven Brothers’ Gerson Doeseb and Desmond April scored for their team, while Patrick Jagger, Ivan Namaseb and Ettiene Beukes were all on target for Pirates.Clarence Khaiseb scored an own goal to give Pirates the 4-2 win.Marco van Wyk hit the net for SKW in a well-balanced contest against Stars, but defenders Mali Ngarizemo and Andrew Tjahikika rose to the occasion to land the goals for their team.In the final match of the evening, Arrows had a tall order as they already trailed 3-0 at half-time, a score line that did not reflect the form that the Walvis Bay side demonstrated in the tournament.Arrows at several stages showed a lack of concentration and their defence was completely disjointed, allowing the no-nonsense Ramblers strikers to feast on their goal.Tommy Horaeb scored the opener for Ramblers, a goal that opened the floodgates.Riaan Cloete was next on the scoreboard when he cleverly volleyed in a cross, before Bernadine Mbilizi wrapped up matters for the first half.Arrows tried finding their feet in the second half, with their striker Robson Haitamba and midfielder Rudolph Bester pushing for an opening goal without any luck, but matters got worse when Ramblers was awarded a penalty.Costa Khaiseb struck beautifully past Arrows goalie Vonk Tjihenuna to see his team through to the next stage. The semi-final draw will be conducted at Soccer House today at 11h00.Orlando Pirates survived a scare from Eleven Brothers in scorching heat to end on top with a 4-2 win, while African Stars came back from behind to beat Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) 2-1.Mighty Gunners, from Otjiwarongo and in the Otjozondjupa First Division, scored both goals in the second half within two minutes apart, and despite the free-kick by BA’s Masepo Dausab to make it 2-1, there was no holding back for the Otjiwarongo side, which fought for their survival and it paid off in the end.For Gunners, under the tutelage of former BA great Dawid ‘Fella’ Snewe, it is the first time that they have gone through to the semi-finals of the country’s biggest football competition. The semi-final draw will be conducted at Soccer House today at 11h00.
