Bank Windhoek continues to support athletics

Bank Windhoek last week announced the renewal of the sponsorship agreement with Athletics Namibia with a total sponsorship of N$250 000 for the 2016 athletics season.

A portion of the sponsorship will be used to host the National Track and Field Championships in Windhoek.

According to Alna Similo, President of Athletics Namibia, more than 100 athletes from the regions and associate members of Athletics Namibia have already indicated that they will participate at the event. Some 20 athletes from neighbouring countries will also be invited to participate in Windhoek.

“The idea behind the invitation of athletes from outside Namibia is to improve the competition on the track and field which may assist to improve the performance of our athletes ahead of the qualifiers for the 2016 Olympic Games to be hosted in Rio,” Similo said.

In addition to the money made available for the national event, the sponsorship will also be used to train 50 regional and club officials in an attempt to improve athletics at a regional level.

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement, Marlize Horn, Executive Officer: Group Marketing and Corporate Communication Services at Bank Windhoek, said: “Bank Windhoek remains committed to the development of athletics in Namibia. It is due to this commitment that we encourage Athletics Namibia to undertake training in the regions. We are confident in the management of Athletics Namibia and we are proud of the strides our athletes are making at regional and international events. Through this training, athletics can only grow stronger.”

The President of Athletics Namibia, Alna Similo, said that Athletics Namibia was very grateful for the positive relationship that exists with Bank Windhoek. She said: “Bank Windhoek has been one of our partners for a long time now. We will use the money to make the National Championship even bigger and better this year.”
