MONTPELLIER – Berrick Barnes, Australia’s exciting young flyhalf, is set to back up for the Wallabies’ next two Rugby World Cup matches as playmaker Stephen Larkham recovers from minor knee surgery.
The 21-year-old was outstanding in his first full international in Australia’s 32-20 victory Wales in Cardiff last Saturday, easing anxiety within the Wallaby camp over Larkham’s sidelining up to a projected semi-final return if the team get that far. Barnes, playing with a composure unfamiliar with one so young, set up the Wallabies’ opening try for Matt Giteau and landed a 23rd-minute drop goal to gain the Australians’ early ascendancy.Nampa-ReutersBarnes, playing with a composure unfamiliar with one so young, set up the Wallabies’ opening try for Matt Giteau and landed a 23rd-minute drop goal to gain the Australians’ early ascendancy.Nampa-Reuters
