Basketball camp well attended

THE Deutsche Hohere Privatschule (DHPS) and the Basketball Artists School (BAS) hosted their third collaborative DHPS/BAS camp last weekend.

The three-day camp with 100 players aged 7 to 18 years, and coaches was held at DHPS. Basic skills of dribbling, passing, shooting and ball handling were taught.

Different contests and games were played and through these, winners for the five trophies that participants competed for, were determined. The winners were Zuleika Hiwilepo (Most Improved Female), Elias Lagvardi (Most Improved Male), Zunaid Benjamin (Best Shooter), Rayhan Poonja (Most Valuable Player, MVP, Male) and Ashley Linda (Most Valuable Player, MVP, Female).

The success of the camp was made possible with assistance from Kristin Eichholz, the DHPS principal; Melusi Linda (DHPS sports coach); Ramah Mumba (BAS director) and Malakia Matias (BAS coordinator), as well as OTB Sports.

When asked about the camp, 12-year-old participant Nathan Mungunda said: “I enjoyed the camp so much and I learnt hoe to play like Lebron James. I can’t wait for next year’s camp.”

BAS is an after-school program focusing on education, life skills and basketball for children and youth in Katutura. For more information find them on Facebook at Basketball Artists School or Instagram.
