Big dagga bust in Walvis

ONE hundred and forty-one parcels of dagga, worth about N$70 000, were confiscated by the Erongo Police at Kuisebmond on Monday.

‘Thanks to a tip-off from an alert member of the public, we managed to make this bust,’ said Deputy Commissioner Marcellus Maritshane. On Monday, the Police at Walvis Bay received a tip about a large amount of dagga being kept in a shack in Kuisebmond. Officers arrived at a locked shack. The owner of the shack was contacted, but according to Maritshane, ‘she was on her way to Grootfontein’.’We waited for half and hour for someone to open the shack and when this did not happen we broke down the door,’ he said. The brown paper parcels were found neatly packed inside a box bed, and immediately confiscated. The suspect has not yet been arrested.’The Erongo Police will not leave any stone unturned to eradicate crime from this region. Criminals must know that they must flee to another region because they will not be tolerated here,’ said the Deputy Commissioner. He encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour – especially because the holiday season is around the corner. He suspected that the dagga was brought in from South Africa by road, and believes that there may be an influx of narcotics to the coast to supply ‘a Christmas and New Year’s market’.
