A new event on the Namibian cycling scene, the Nauams Gravel Grind will be held on Nauams Farm in the Khomas Hochland on 29 March.

Gravel racing is one of the fastest growing cycling disciplines in the world and is now also taking off in Namibia.

The Namibia Gravel Championships were held for the first time between Windhoek and Gross Barman in November last year, while Namibia is due to host the inaugural Africa Gravel Championships in August this year.

One of the organisers of the Nauams Gravel Grind, Tokkie Bombosch said they had big plans to expand the event into a premier cycling attraction in Namibia.

“With Namibia due to host the inaugural Africa Gravel Championships in August, the event has been planned to give ourr cyclists some valuable preparation. We have big plans to grow the Nauams Gravel Grind into an annual event and hopefully it can become as big as the Nedbank Desert Dash in future,” he said.

The 165km route will take cyclists over some breathtaking landscapes, including the Remhoogte Pass and the steep climb up the legendary Spreetshoogte Pass as well as past Solitaire.

Cyclists can enter as solo riders or in the two-person team category.

“Entries are filling up fast so I call on cyclists to enter before the closing date on Sunday, 23 March,” Bombosch said.
