Big turnout at Gravity Cup

Affies Park at Wanderers was a hive of activity over the weekend when the mass junior sporting event, the Metropolitan Gravity Cup took place.

More than 1 000 boys and girls, representing 140 teams from about 40 schools throughout Namibia competed in the youth sport extravaganza in rugby, hockey, football and netball competitions. 

In rugby sevens, MK Gertze from Rehoboth won the u19 title, followed by Windhoek Technical High School (HTS), while Windhoek High School (WHS) won the u17 title, followed by Okahandja School Sport. 

Roots Gymnasium from Stampriet won the u15 title, followed by WHS, while Pro Ed Academy from Swakopmund won the u13 title after beating Pionierspark Primary after extra time. 

In netball, Ella du Plessis won the u19 title, followed by A Shipena and WHS, while Centaurus won the u17 title, followed by Roots Academy and Otjiwarongo Secondary School. 

Pro Ed Academy won the u15 category, followed by WHS 1 and WHS 2, while Tsaraxa-Aibes Primary School from Otjiwarongo won the u13 title, followed by Tutzi Netball Academy and Orban Primary School.

In boys hockey competitions, WHS won the u19 title, after beating St George’s Diocesan College and Etosha Secondary School; while WHS also won the u16 title, followed by St Pauls College and St George’s.

Swakopmund Private School won the boys u14 category, followed by St Paul’s and Pro Ed Academy. 

St Paul’s made a clean sweep in the girls hockey competitions, winning all three age group categories. 

The won the u19 title, followed by Pro Ed 1 and Pro Ed 2; the u16 title, followed by WHS 1 and WHS 2; and the u14 title, followed by WHS and Pro Ed Academy.
