Black Dice back after 12-year hiatus

THE last time we heard Jason Andreas’s voice was back in 2008, when he was still part of the male trio Black Dice. However, he has recently relaunched his solo career and released an album ‘Uushimba’.

The 20-track album features artists such as Top Cheri, Sunny Boy, Exit and Kaboy Kamakili, amongst others.

The kwaito artist says it took so long to release new music because he was focusing on school and a full-time job.

“The other two members left the group because one started a full-time job and the other joined Afro-pop and kwaito group Amazonkies. I could not give up on my career in music because I feel that God has placed this love for music in my heart to share it with others. I use my music to tell people what is right and wrong.”

His love for music was instant and he felt deep down that it was a calling. Some of his first performances were as part of the trio who performed at school events and talent shows.

“Back then we were very well known and the learners loved it each time we went on stage. There I already knew that music was for me,” he said, however, admitting that starting over is not easy.

“I went knocking on one closed door to the next. I also had many sleepless nights, but I never gave up.”

The Oshakati-born musician says the title track of the album, ‘Uushimba’ is all about encouraging people to surround themselves with positive things, and leave anything illegal behind.

“People must not steal. They must work hard and find other ways to place bread on the table,” he said.

The track ‘Ongula’ featuring Jayson No Mercy, serves as an inspiration to always have a plan for each day.

“In the song I am unprepared for the day. This is a clear indication that you have no vision in life. I am therefore urging others to wake up early in the morning and start planning their day.”

Andreas has already released a music video for ‘Uushiimaba’ and plans to release another next month.
