Body of missing child found in tunnel at Okahandja

The body of a five-year-old girl who was reported as missing by her grandmother on Thursday was found in a tunnel at Okahandja on Friday afternoon.

Police head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa region senior inspector Maureen Mbeha in a statement on Saturday said the deceased was identified as Ingrid Maasdorp, a Grade 0 pupil at KW von Marees Combined School at Okahandja.

“Maasdorp’s body was found by a passer-by in a tunnel near the new bridge along the B1 road of Veddersdal residential area at the town,” Mbeha said.

It is suspected the girl might have drowned, and no foul play is suspected so far, Mbeha said.

An autopsy will be performed in Windhoek to determine the exact cause of death.

The family of Maasdorp was informed of her death, and Mbeha called on any member of the public with additional information to share this with law enforcement.

Police investigations continue.
