Boland thrash Windhoek Gymnasium

WINDHOEK Gymnasium suffered a huge defeat against the visiting Boland Invitational team, going down by 118 runs during the Momentum T20 Cricket Week on Wednesday night.

Boland Invitational batted first and scored a formidable 165 for seven wickets in their 20 overs.

Lourens Smit top-scored with 34 runs while Garreth Wolmarans added 28 and Sinalo Gobeni 22.

Jan Izak de Villiers was Gymnasium’s best bowler, taking three wickets for 40 runs, while De Wet Ferreira took 2/10.

Gymnasium’s innings was a disaster as Boland pace bowler Le Roux Kloppers ripped through the home side’s batting order.

Incredibly, nine wickets fell for only three runs on the board as Gymnasium crashed to 15/9.

Gymnasium’s number 11, Janu Dreyer was the only batsman to reach double figures, scoring a rapid 23 not out off 19 balls, before the whole team was out for a meagre 47 runs.

Kloppers produced great bowling figures for Boland, taking seven wickets for three runs off four overs, while Achille Cloete took 2/18.

In other matches on Wednesday, Pro Ed Academy beat WAP by six wickets, WHS beat Country Districts by 11 runs and the Welwitschia Coastal beat Namibia Invitational by nine wickets.

Meanwhile, Windhoek Gymnasium will have a chance to take revenge against Boland Invitational, after the two teams qualified for Saturday’s final.

In Thursday’s semifinals, Boland Invitational beat Welwitschia Coastal by six wickets, while Windhoek Gymnasium beat Namibia Invitational by six wickets.

The third-place play-off between Welwitschia Coastal and Namibia Invitational will start at 12h30 on Friday, while the final between Windhoek Gymnasium and Boland Invitational will start at 12h30 on Saturday.
