Boost for Hijaukambe Combined School

ATLANTIC Food Services (AFS), through its corporate social investment initiative, on Monday donated 250 mattresses and various kitchen utensils valued at N$110 000 to the Hijaukambe Combined School in the Ruacana constituency of the Omusati region.

Speaking at the handover, company director Eunice Iipinge said this is to uplift the communities in which AFS operates by ploughing back a significant portion of its profits.

“Established in 2005, AFS is a Namibian-owned and locally run company which delivers quality contract catering solutions to commercial and state-owned institutions across Namibia,” she narrated.

The AFS Community Trust funds the company’s corporate social investment initiatives, and the trust has thus far donated more than N$2,6 million to local communities.

Iipinge added that the project may take the form of sponsorships and donations aimed at bettering students’ learning environment and improving access to educational opportunities, as well as responding to the needs of individuals and communities.

“We can help, where we can, to make the world a better place,” she said, stating that AFS had decided to support Hijaukambe CS after the school community approached it for assistance last year.

Established in 1995, the school caters for children from the previously disadvantaged communities in and around the Omuhama village.

According to headmaster Christof Ngavetene, the school also caters for pupils from the Otjetjekua and Otjondeka primary schools.

The school has 18 teachers and an enrolment figure of 467 pupils from Grades 0 to 9, of whom 340 stay in the hostel.
