Boxing promoter Nestor Tobias says the MTC Sunshine Academy’s showcase on 16 November is meant to encourage the public to take part in the upcoming national elections.
Namibia heads to the polls on 27 November.
Co-sponsored by PstBet, the ‘Your Vote Counts’ bill will feature undefeated Namibian powerhouse Paulinus Ndjolonimus and Abubakar Mubarak from Ghana fighting for the WBO Africa Super middleweight title in the headline bout.
The event is a celebration of Namibia’s democracy and has a whopping 12 fights on the card.
A globally acclaimed trainer and promoter, Tobias says boxing, and sport in general, in Namibia have flourished due to the peace and stability in the country.
Exercising your right to vote helps maintain or improve conditions in the country, Tobias emphasises.
“We are honoured to be able to celebrate Namibia’s democracy through boxing, and we hope that everyone will come out to support our champions and cast their votes on election day,” Tobias said yesterday.
“We believe this event will not only showcase the best of Namibian boxing, but also highlight the importance of democracy and the right to vote in our country.”
The bill also features undefeated prospect Mateus Heita against Tatenda Biningu from Zimbabwe for the WBO Africa featherweight strap.
Harry Simon Jr will take on Abed Shikongo for the vacant WBO Africa welterweight belt.
Tickets will be priced at N$200 for general admission and N$20 000 for a table seating 10 people.
