The January 5 incident was caught on film, sparking a public outrage that led to the closing of all military-style reformatories in Florida and the resignation of the chief state investigator, who tried to hide the film. “Seven guards and a nurse are in the process of being arrested for aggravated manslaughter on a child, which is a first degree offence punishable by up to 30 years in prison,” Bush, brother of US President George W Bush, told reporters.Martin Lee Anderson died from asphyxia in a Panama City reformatory, in northeastern Florida, after he collapsed during compulsory exercises.A film of the incident, made public by a media-sought court order, shows seven burly uniformed guards repeatedly punching and kicking the teenager as a female nurse calmly looks on.An initial autopsy on Anderson, who arrived at boot camp two days earlier for stealing his grandmother’s car, said he died from anaemia.A second autopsy found the cause of death to be asphyxia from having his mouth held shut and from inhaling too much ammonium during efforts to revive him.Nampa-AFP”Seven guards and a nurse are in the process of being arrested for aggravated manslaughter on a child, which is a first degree offence punishable by up to 30 years in prison,” Bush, brother of US President George W Bush, told reporters.Martin Lee Anderson died from asphyxia in a Panama City reformatory, in northeastern Florida, after he collapsed during compulsory exercises.A film of the incident, made public by a media-sought court order, shows seven burly uniformed guards repeatedly punching and kicking the teenager as a female nurse calmly looks on.An initial autopsy on Anderson, who arrived at boot camp two days earlier for stealing his grandmother’s car, said he died from anaemia.A second autopsy found the cause of death to be asphyxia from having his mouth held shut and from inhaling too much ammonium during efforts to revive him.Nampa-AFP
