Burger hit with ban after Saints clash

Namibian rugby captain Jacques Burger has been banned for a week after being found guilty of foul play for his English club Saracens in the Aviva Premiership against Northampton Saints.

According to daventryexpress.co.uk Burger has been banned for one week after receiving two citing commissioner warnings for acts contrary to good sportsmanship in last Saturday’s game against Saints.

Burger appeared at an RFU disciplinary hearing at London’s Bloomsbury Inn on Tuesday evening, having been charged with striking Saints prop Alex Waller and illegally charging into a ruck.

The 32-year-old will now miss Saracens’ Champions Cup game against Toulouse at Allianz Park on Saturday.

He will be free to play again on November 17.

Saracens, who are the defending Aviva Premiership champions, beat the Saints 12-6 to record their fourth consecutive win of the season and are now at the top of the log with 17 points from four matches.

Exeter Chiefs, for whom Namibian fullback Chrysander Botha plays, are second on the log with 15 points from four matches, while Harlequins are third on 13 points.
