A local businessman based at Outapi in the Omusati region on Wednesday donated 10 crates of carbonated drinks and eight bottles of cleaning detergent to the police in the region in support of their efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19 at Outapi.
Omusati police spokesperson inspector Lineekela Shikongo applauded the donation by local businessman Hai Rong Zhu which came in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, and commended the businessman for being a forerunner in the fight against the deadly virus. The donations, Shikongo highlighted, would go a long way to ensuring that members of the police have the means to practice good hand hygiene, as well as making sure they are well hydrated, as they battle the spread of the virus.
The donated items are valued at N$3 600.
In his handover speech, Rong Zhu called on other local business people to support the government in these trying times and offer aid however they saw fit.
While accepting the donation, the Omusati police regional commander, commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the police are faced with many challenges in the battle against Covid-19 and that the donation has come at an opportune time to mitigate the spread of the disease.
“We thank the businessman for coming on board to assist us during these trying times. This donation will help us a lot. We are also urging other business people to come on board and offer their assistance in any possible way that they can,” said Shikongo.
