Capricorn to create 250 jobs with new building project

The Capricorn Group aims to create 250 jobs with the construction of a 13-storey office in Windhoek’s central business district (CBD).

The construction of the new building commenced on the corner of Independence Avenue and Kasino Street in February and is expected to be completed in 2026.

During the groundbreaking ceremony in Windhoek yesterday, Capricorn Group chief executive David Nuyoma said the building project stems from growing demand for modern infrastructure in the CBD.

“We are not simply investing in a structure of bricks and mortar; this project represents an investment in our city’s economic and cultural fabric,” he noted.

According to Nuyoma, the ever busy Independence Avenue has lost its vibrancy, which the planned building aims to renew.

“The CBD has been going southward and this building project is set to become a new landmark and brighten the city,” said Nuyoma.

According to Nuyoma, the building will adhere to world-class green building standards to minimise environmental impact and maximise energy efficiency.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Bank Windhoek board of directors chairperson Johan Swanepoel said the temporary jobs created by the project will boost the economy.

“These jobs will bolster our local economy, enhance the livelihoods of our residents and ultimately contribute to a robust and prosperous community,” he added.

Additionally, local businesses that will supply the building materials will also benefit, Swanepoel noted.

According to Swanepoel, once the building construction is concluded, it will accommodate 200 employees from Bank Windhoek and the Capricorn Group.

Moreover, the Bank Windhoek main branch will move to the ground floor of the building to offer more convenience for its customers, said Swanepoel.

The building will not belong to the Capricorn Group, but will be a long-term lease from the developers.
