Caprivi locusts’under control’

KATIMA MULILO – An outbreak of locusts at Muyako, in the Caprivi Region, has been brought under control, an agricultural official said.

Chief Agricultural Extension Technician, Leonard Sitwala, said teams were deployed to spray pesticides in affected areas, including the dried up Lake Lyambezi. “We are monitoring the situation in the affected areas, especially during morning hours and late afternoons when these insects are visible,” he said.Sitwala, who visited the affected areas a week ago, said the locusts had been contained before they caused major damage to crops.The official appealed to residents in the affected areas to co-operate with the spray teams and immediately report locusts when spotted.Likwama Farmers’ Association Chief Executive Officer, Mathias Semy, said areas where the locusts had been spotted included the Lusu and Mutikitila villages and areas closer to Lake Lyambezi.- Nampa”We are monitoring the situation in the affected areas, especially during morning hours and late afternoons when these insects are visible,” he said.
