Cricket Namibia yesterday announced the return of the men’s T20 Franchise Tournament in Windhoek next month, to be sponsored by Castle Lite.

“The tournament which will be known as the Castle Lite T20 Franchise, will bring added excitement and a heightened level of competition to Namibia’s premier domestic cricket event,” Cricket Namibia said in a press release.

“Building on our successful partnership with AB InBev, Castle Lite has consistently shown support for Namibian cricket, currently sponsoring our inbound international tournaments. This partnership reinforces Castle Lite’s ongoing commitment to elevating the game within Namibia’s cricket community,” it added.

The Castle Lite T20 Franchise Tournament, featuring the highest level of domestic cricket in the country, will take place at the Trustco United Sports Club over two weekends from 15 November to 24 November.

The tournament will showcase the nation’s top talent, blending national players with emerging youth stars from Cricket Namibia’s development pipeline.

“The tournament aims to provide these up-and-coming players exposure to high-stakes, competitive cricket played on camera, giving them a valuable experience in a professional setting alongside seasoned players,” it added.

Cricket Namibia also announced two new team owners joining the T20 Franchise competition, namely Naankuse and Green Enterprise Solutions, adding that their support further highlights the excitement surrounding the franchise and signals strong backing from prominent Namibian companies.

The Castle Lite T20 Franchise teams and coaching lineup reflect the depth of expertise and experience driving Namibian cricket forward.

The Green Windhoek Jets will be coached by Fortune Matawu, who led the team to victory in the 2023 season. The Fish River Eagles will be led by Timothy Yates, the national men’s team analyst, who brings valuable experience from the national coaching and management team.

The Naankuse Lions will be guided by Evert Laubscher, while the Etosha Wildcats will be headed by Oscar Nauhaus, Cricket Namibia’s High-Performance Manager and u19 national coach.

“The 2024 season promises to be competitive with a fresh lineup of players eager to make their mark. Cricket Namibia is inviting the public to be part of the Castle Lite T20 Franchise at United Sports Club and can also watch the games live on https://oneafrica.tv/sportsonone/cricket/,” the statement concluded.
