IN The Namibian newspaper of 17 February 2009, The Executive Director of WAD (Women’s Action for Development) ‘calls on the Council of Churches in Namibia (CCN) to act swiftly and effectively…’ regarding the pastors of a Member Church in CCN.
While CCN respects the right of everyone to express his/her feelings on issues affecting the church and society, CCN would appreciate a direct communication line with the leadership of the Council or the leadership of the Member Church.
It should also be understood how CCN is functioning concerning issues among her member Churches.
In respect of ‘the actions of a number of pastors’ of our member Church, CCN believes in the discipline guidelines of her member Churches in dealing with their staff members. The member Churches have Constitutions, Regulations, Policies and Discipline guidelines to guide them in the administration of their Churches.
CCN has no doubt in the ability of the concerned Member Church to exercise discipline wherever there is misconduct, but would not interfere directly with internal affairs.
CCN would also like to call on everyone not to confuse the public with the behaviour of certain pastors. The majority of our pastors as Spiritual Leaders in communities maintain the dignity of their calling. They are role models in providing care and support to their parishioners in the midst of many challenges.
Dr Tshapaka Kapolo
Acting Secretary General
Council of Churches in Namibia
