Charcoal producer dies after reported snake bite at Kalkfeld

A Charcoal producer (32) at Kalkfeld died after he was allegedly bitten by a snake in the bushes of farm Georg-Ferdinandshöhe on Thursday.

Police head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa region senior inspector Maureen Mbeha on Saturday said the police were only informed of the incident on Friday.

The deceased was identified by close relatives as Abraham Kashihulu, she said.

“It is alleged that the snake which attacked Kashihulu has not been identified. He was first taken to the Kalkfeld clinic, then transferred to Otjiwarongo State Hospital, where he died shortly on arrival,” Mbeha said.

A post-mortem will be performed by doctors on Monday to determine the exact cause of Kashihulu’s death, she said. An inquest docket was opened at the Kalkfeld Police Station in connection with the incident. Police investigations continue.
