Charlotte’s Bistro opens in city

HOME-STYLE MEALS … Charlotte’s Bistro opened its doors in late January.

Charlotte’s Bistro, or ‘Sondag Kos’, is the latest eatery to open in the capital. Located at Garthandri Park in the Southern Industrial area, it offers a fresh dining experience.

The bistro officially opened its doors in late January.

Founder Glowney Naris says the bistro focuses on serving comforting, home-style meals with a gourmet touch, creating a space where food brings people together.

She says the venue is a product of a journey that began during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Naris says it was during this time that she started preparing Sunday meals at home, which quickly gained popularity.

She says the bistro is a tribute to her late grandmother, Charlotte, who was a cook and taught her the art of preparing flavourful, soulful dishes.

“The overwhelming demand led me to invite guests into my home, and as interest grew, I transitioned into catering. This venture not only made me a household name but also deepened my passion for cooking – a skill and love I owe to my grandmother, Charlotte, who was a phenomenal cook and my greatest teacher in the kitchen. Naming the restaurant Charlotte’s is a heartfelt tribute to her, honouring the legacy of love and culinary excellence passed down through generations,” Naris says.

She says guests can enjoy a unique culinary experience featuring ‘Sondag Kos’ paired with wines curated by local wine specialist Sanet Bombas, owner of Bombas Wines.

“Our menu is deeply rooted in the warmth and tradition of Sondag Kos, also known as ‘seven-colour plates’ that bring together a variety of rich flavours, colours and textures. We offer slow-cooked meats, vibrant vegetable sides, fresh seafood, and indulgent desserts, which is all inspired by the heartiness of traditional home-cooked meals,” she says.

Naris says their drink menu is thoughtfully curated to complement the meals, featuring a selection of wines, handcrafted cocktails, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.

“We work closely with local wine specialists, like Sanet Bombas from Bombas Wines, to ensure our wine pairings enhance the dining experience. We focus on using fresh ingredients and unique infusions to create drinks that perfectly complement our meals,” she says.

She says the bistro is more than just a restaurant – it’s a celebration of heritage, love and culinary excellence.

Naris says the bistro is designed with the aim to be warm, cosy and stylish.

“The decor blends modern elegance with rustic charm, featuring soft lighting, carefully curated furnishings, and a relaxed yet sophisticated ambiance. Whether you’re here for a casual lunch, an intimate dinner, or a special celebration, the space enhances the dining experience. Charlotte’s Bistro is not just about food; it’s about creating experiences and celebrating tradition. We also offer catering services and are open to hosting private events,” she says.

Charlotte’s Bistro is open Monday to Thursday from 08h00 to 10h00 and Friday to Sunday from 08h00 to 14h00.
