Chief’s new bakkie goes up in flames

A TOYOTA double-cab bakkie recently allocated to the !Khara-Khoen Traditional Authority was destroyed by fire on Friday.

The Hardap Regional Police commander, Deputy Commissioner Kobus Meyer, said the fire was allegedly started by a passenger who had smoked near petrol and diesel drums loaded onto the bakkie.Meyer said one passenger sustained minor burns. The Police are investigating arson charges.The incident happened a few kilometres south of Gibeon on the B1 road. The bakkie was apparently on its way from Gibeon to Amperpo settlement where the !Khara-Khoen chief lives.
