Child rapes among list of long-weekend crimes

THE alleged rape of two girls aged five and nine were among the Heroes Day long-weekend crimes reported by the police.

The five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 16-year-old suspect at Okatope in the Ohangwena region.

The incident happened last Thursday at around 16h00 in the Omuntele area.

The police report states that the suspect and victim were discovered by their grandmother.

The victim explained to her grandmother what happened, and that it was not the first time she had allegedly been sexually assaulted.

The suspect has been arrested and police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 16-year-old boy at Oshakati.

The incident took place on 19 August at 08h00 at Omusati gwa Niita village after the girl’s grandmother left the her with the suspect, who is a family member, and went to a wedding.

The suspect has not been arrested and is on the run.

Police investigations continue.

In a separate matter at Katima Mulilo, a 27-year-old man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl on Friday at Mission compound.

The suspect will appear in court on today.

In another incident, a Namibian man (42) was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman (37) by kicking, beating and raping her on Friday at Lüderitz after accusing her of sleeping with other men.

It is further alleged that the suspect also beat their two-year-old child.

A woman estimated to be 28 years old died on Sunday inside a shack, which was gutted by fire at Havana. She was last seen on Saturday at around 16h30 while drinking with a neighbour.

She had allegedly left the neighbour to go and cook.

The police say the owner of the shack and her boyfriend are currently in the north, and most of their neighbours do not know the victim’s relatives.

Her next of kin have not been informed of her death yet.

MAN STABBED TO DEATH

A man was stabbed to death at Otjomuise in the capital when he allegedly attempted to kill his baby, and then attacked a brother and sister.

It is alleged that the deceased, Manuel Clinton, was allegedly attempting to strangle his eight-month-old daughter on Saturday when the sister of the suspect (16) intervened.

According to the crime report, Clinton threatened to kill the suspect’s sister with an axe.

The suspect allegedly came to the defence of his sister and stabbed Clinton.

“The deceased lost a lot of blood and died,” the crime report says.

Police investigations continue.

SUSPECTS COOK DURING ARMED ROBBERY

It is alleged that the two suspects, armed with pistols, broke into the house and tied up three victims during the four-hour robbery on Friday at around 23h30.

According to police, the suspects had enough time to cook, while loading pistols, hunting rifles and a shotgun into a white double-cab bakkie, which was also stolen during the robbery.

The stolen vehicle and some household items were later found at Matsitsi Road at Goreangab.
