THE City of Windhoek has agreed to donate an erf valued at N$ 217 280 to the Mount Sinai Centre to build a centre to take care of HIV-AIDS infected people.
The request was made by First Lady Penehupifo Pohamba, the centre’s patron. The erf was previously a dumping site for household and industrial refuse and the City has absolved itself from any latent or patent defect that may arise because of the soil composition. It has recommended that engineering drawings accompany building plans on the composition and depth of the landfill.Mount Sinai has been a registered welfare organisation since January 2005.The erf donated to the centre is located in Katutura’s Makabeer Street and is 5 432 square metres.”As the erf does not sound feasible for residential use because of the landfill and the expenses related to control and maintain the risk associated with it, it is suggested that the erf be donated to the Mount Sinai Centre,” council agreed at its monthly meeting on Wednesday night. The council agreed to the donation considering that the site will have to be rehabilitated at the centre’s own cost before development can take place.Council further granted consent for the centre to operate as an institution and for the area to be rezoned from residential to accommodate it.Mount Sinai has also been advised to obtain professional advice on the foundation conditions and design of the building it intends to erect.
