City police warns of arrests over Easter weekend

The Windhoek City Police say they will execute warrants of arrest at roadblocks that will be set up randomly in the city over the Easter weekend.

City Police spokersperson sergeant Nqobizwe Shipanga said this on Thursday.

Shipanga said officers will also be stationed at the Okapuka roadblock to assess vehicle, tyre and driver fitness.

“We have been preaching about the story of amnesty of whoever has a ticket or fine must comply with the law since November last year. If we find out you have a warrant, we will arrest you,” he said.

“Please drive safely and take care. Ensure that your tyres are in good condition, and ensure the overall safety of your vehicle. Do not drink and drive, because we will conduct alcohol testing at our checkpoints,” Shipanga said.

The police also urged residents who travel out of town to ensure they arrange that their property is looked after.

“Theft of motor vehicles becomes a lot – especially during these holidays. If you are parking at a mall or restaurant or anywhere, ensure that your vehicle is locked.

“Do not leave your valuables in the car to avoid attracting the attention of thieves,” he said.
