Civil servants urged to improve service delivery

Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu has called upon public servants to be champions in their offices by delivering the best services to those they serve.

He made these remarks on Friday during a speech read on his behalf by Katima Mulilo Urban constituency councillor Kennedy Simasiku at the launch of the regional education directorate’s customer service charter.

The launch of this charter follows a directive by the Office of the Prime Minister last year for all ministries to establish functional customer charters that will improve service delivery.

Sampofu said most employees in the country are in the public service, therefore, the responsibility mostly rests with them to ensure that citizens receive improved services.

“Our government is committed to ensuring that service delivery is not compromised. This is the reason every office, ministry, or agency is tasked with carefully looking into customer satisfaction and evaluating their operations,” he said.

Sampofu said he hopes when citizens enter government offices, they will be served with the respect and love they deserve.

“Let no customer be turned away without a satisfactory response or feedback. I hope we will move away from attitudes of laziness and enjoy our duties. Our offices should not only be open, but we should always be available to assist them when they need our services,” he said.

He said the government is aware of the challenges civil servants face and is working towards improving their working conditions.

The director for planning and rural development at the Zambezi Regional Council, Beaven Walubit, said the charter speaks to the four education goals, namely access, equity, quality, and democracy, which will be realised through hard work.

“The customer service charter is important because it’s a key tool that will help us improve our performance as customers will get the most out of our services,” he said.
